Our Story
Sarah and Mark purchased the vineyard with a single dream in mind – to sit around eating and drinking all day! Unfortunately, there is much work involved in creating a dream business. Now, together with their two children Lachie and Gracie, they manage the 6.29ha vineyard with cellardoor and extensive function facilities, as well as real estate, investment and project management business Tasmania Invest. They also remain a part owner and directors of the local Lilydale Larder with other fabulous local business people.
“It’s all about working hard in the vineyard and then being able to enjoy the end product with a glass or two as the sun goes down,” says Sarah. Sarah and Mark have no formal wine expertise. Instead they rely on their skills in consumption, dreaming, planning, researching and doing.
“There’s nothing worse than being intimidated by wine,” Sarah said. “I’ve been in so many situations where people expect you to say something intelligent about what is in your glass. While it’s great if you can, it’s also more enjoyable to laugh, learn and love the whole process of grape growing, wine making and tasting!” Whisky is another of the couple’s passions – so they offer tastings of Hellyer Road Distillery's award-winning single malts. And then there’s a scrumptious lunch menu, Tassie cheeses, great coffee and of course, the full range of Leaning Church’s estate-grown cool-climate wines. “It’s all about having a great time enjoying the experience of premium wine and food in a stunning natural location,” Sarah said.
